Wednesday Wye

Another sunny day

The sheep are back in the fields by the river - if anyone tells you that the countryside is a quiet place to live they haven't been near a field of lambs and their mums....

One of the ladies on the bank behind my house has a very deep baa, and her little ones were not being good yesterday while I was sawing wood...

And this is a more normal level of the river - same bank as last week...

I posted this today - I hope it fits him and that he doesn't ask for another one soon ;-)

Spot the difference

First a view of the pond - my fish think it is spring and have come up from the depths... poor things will have to wait until I think there will be no frosts before they get some food...

And then a similar view a bit later... and the tree has gone....

Fish are still hopeful though (I counted 50 of them)

And this is how the garden looks now... my arms were getting tired of sawing, so I've left this lot until tomorrow... At least I should be warm next winter (if I get round to getting a wood burner installed)

And hopefully all the sawing will mean that I loose some more weight this week - I'm a woman on a mission...

And this is an unusual view - blue sky...

Second day running I've had washing on the line... I hope it lasts until I've managed to cut up the tree...

I do plan to plant some replacement trees once I get rid of the grass in the front garden - and they wont be planted in a silly place (why plant trees at the edge of the grass ? )

The jumper still needs sewing up - maybe tonight. The different yarn is just on the inside facing - the comment about aftershave made me laugh - I dont think I've ever known him wear the stuff - more likely to be a dirty neck that causes the different colour !!!

Thank Goodness

Sorry these are really bad photos...

I finished knitting brother's Christmas present in the early hours of this morning... I have been panicking for a few days that I wouldn't have enough yarn left to finish, and I wasn't wrong !!

The strange light is due to the sun being out ...

I even managed to get some washing on the line, who knows I might even manage some gardening soon....

I made it to the neck band, and do just enough rows before using another 20% wool for the turn under... this was the best match out of three balls - I'm hoping that he wont notice once it has been sewn together...

And the rest of the yarn is going to a local charity knitter - got to get rid of it somehow...
I was told to get rid of all my acrylic earlier in the week - which proves that I do do what I'm told (sometimes !!!)

And now I'm going to knit with some thing pure and colourful... and probably non blogable (sorry)

Wednesday Wye

It has stopped raining in Wales !!

Most of the river is where it is meant to be :-)

It's good being able to drive round without having the underneath of my car washed !!

visits

Last weekend I went on an adventure.
If I had been a little bit quicker taking this photo the bridge would have been open...
But I wasn't and the tall boat was nowhere near it when I got to the side of the Thames.

And the reason why I was slow was because I was looking at the thirteen towers that make up the Tower of London.

The well recognised middle bit houses a lot of guns and things that caused many injuries...

We spoke to several Beefeaters (did you know that there are 35 of them?) And arrived just as a tour started, very entertaining and informative. (there is talk that they will have to cut all the jokes soon - bad news..)

And on Sunday I went to see a knitting friend.

Punk was pleased to see some friends as well...

I managed not to get too wet whilst away, or since I've been home for that matter.

I do hope it starts to get a bit drier soon the land cant cope with much more rain.

And now I really must do some of the aran jumper - I have a horrid feeling that I will have to unpick the sleeves to have enough yarn....

Wednesday Wye

I thought I would try something different to make me post more regularly ...

First a picture of the river yesterday morning at 10am.. not totally over it's banks

As you can see from this photo....

Up but not over....

And the begining of Wednesday Wye's

I was going to take photos today from the same spot, only thing was that the lay by was full of horse trailers...

So this is the view towards the same sort of area.. taken from my parked up car.. not sure were the river is meant to be and the fields...

And in this photo you can see a bridge - that is the 'main' way into my village...

Now I've got home I'm staying put... until Friday morning when I'm off to visit friends near London... They want to go walking, I'm hoping that a trip round the Tower of London will be drier....

Get Knitted

Yesterday saw a mass shop at Get Knitted. I managed to be one of the first to get there and get a seat of one of the sofas, and being remote from my camera didn't take any photos until late in the afternoon..

As you can see we had a good time - there were bags everywhere...

And the usually clear tables were covered with knitting, cake and patterns....

And more bags littered the floor round the other table/sofa...

There were people from all over - Wormhead came from London, Mary from Long Eaton, Kate from Somerset. Others (whose names I cant remember, sorry) came from Hampshire, Devon, Cornwall, and there were some locals.. Thanks to Terri for suggesting it - a good day was had by all !!

And for ages this was all that I bought... two pairs of very thin needles... I have a habit of bending needles and can knit lace easier on straight - so the plan is to eventually cast on the WRS (for the third or fourth time) and try and get past the first few rows...

And the someone mentioned that there was a box of variegated yarn out the back...
Dave was persuaded to bring it in... and we jumped - I have been looking for some for a while and this jumped me...

And I think it goes well with the cone I was gifted a while back....

Not sure of which pattern to use, think I might do another of the cardi pattern but with my own design...

And now I must go and try and finish that aran jumper - only the front to go, and then I can knit with some nicer yarn :-)

So how many have you got?

Someone asked me the other day how many needles did I have...

Well - you know about the circulars...

I was having a no knitting day yesterday and made a holder for them...

These are the ones not attached to projects..

And then I made a holder for my dpn's

The gap is a set that I used to cast on another sock last night...

And then a very blurred photo of my straights -

The holder was made for me last year by a dear friend...

As you can see I do have a few pairs....

There are some metal/plastic ones around as well - mostly inherited or very bent...

And I do have a set of Denises with lots of extra cables...

I've got a problem with my Monkeys...

This is the amount of yarn I've got left after finishing one...

53 grams (sorry forgot to turn the photo)

And then the weight of the first sock 62 grams...

So they were not meant to be.. and to the frog pond they will go...

I have started another pair in opal (should go further !!)

I've done some spinning this morning and baking and looking at the rain I'm not sure I really want to go outside but I have to - I've arranged to stay at my Auntie's tonight just north of Bristol so I dont have to get up so early tomorrow.... Hope to see some of you at Get Knitted tomorrow :-)

Ideas not resolutions

I hardly ever make resolutions, mainly because they are just made to be broken.. instead I have had an idea for this year - try and only buy things I need... including yarn - it must be a good bargain and it must have a purpose..
So this was a bargain, but I did buy it last year - 500g of interesting batt (with silk) The colours looked more muted on ebay but it called to me, and as I haven't done any spinning for a while I decided it was the push I needed to get the wheels turning...

And this is the yarn ( I dont think any of it has been near a sheep...) that is going to be leaving my house soon.

So tomorrow I will be standing in the queue at the post office - I do hope it doesn't snow.. it looks very pretty but on untreated lanes, not so good....

A very strange thing has happened over the last few days I've decided to have a sort out of clutter, clothes and general stuff - think it could have been looking and seeing how much yarn I had or just trying to take my mind off January and the usual bad news it brings...

Right I better find those addresses and then see if I remember how Morris works...

What was on the needles..

Now, there are a lot of photos....

I'll start with the things I haven't touched...
My longest wip/ufo.
This is from Tudor Roses by Alice Starmore.

Started last century, can't remember when and will probably be frogged....

Then we have an aran, I was looking forward to finishing this but after measuring it (to work out the size) I decided that it would be too big - so another for frogging...

Something from the House of Hemp pattern book... not sure if this will stay on the needles or not - it has been resting for some time....

The most complicated lace pattern I have ever tried - Heere be Dragones -

As you can see I haven't done very much of it - only just started his tail...

A Jitterbug cardi/jacket.

This will be frogged....

Autumn Leaves bag from Jamiesons...

I didn't even manage to knit a leaf before putting this down - I think knicker knitting took over...

And now I cant remember what pattern this is but it is knitted in Colinette Mercury... So if anyone wants some of this 'interesting yarn' leave me a message and you can gladly have it !!

Plisse jacket... not really got into knitting this, maybe I will this year.....

Another sock jumper - this has been resting a while, and after the hassles of getting the last one to match this one wont !!

A toe up sock, not touched since Harrogate...

A Bee Stole from Knitspot.

Not sure about the colour, another thing I got distracted from by knickers....

And a Marble shawl (from the cover of Vogue shawls on the go)

I have done a few rows on this, not sure if I will stay on the needles or not...

Peacock Shawl - the red yarn is where I was when I picked it up - I had to do a lot of tinking on Christmas Day, then decided that if I was going to finish anything I should knit something else instead....

Brother's Aran jumper - I was up to the red line on the back- and have finished the back and one sleeve.

He said that he doesn't mind it being late, but wants it for when it gets cold - problem is snow forecast for later this week...

Earth Stole Wrap (or something like that) from Rowan 42.

I was on row 16 and am now on row 40. Using lots of different colours of Parisienne.

And now some finished things !!!

Cadenza Cardi - was meant to be the one from Rowan that has crocheted twists along the edge of the collar - problem was that I didn't have enough yarn (had to make the collar narrower as it was...)

Knitted the sleeves and the collar - and even maneged to sew buttons on last night !!!

A chenille jumper - this has been hanging around in a bag for years... and only needed the collar knitting and sewing up.

Dont think it fits, not decided what to do with it...

And a bit of silliness - Only had to knit the neck strap and the pink bits of the ears and sew the ears & strap on.

Even managed to find a button :-)

Socks that Rock - was up to the heel on the first one.

And DK socks on Opal 6 fach.

When showing how to do magic loop at shows I really should have made a note on the original size of needles used - it took 3 attempts to get it right. Dont know where the original pattern is that I used either... but I was half way down the first leg...

And my final finished article...

A dragon scarf from Morehouse Farm.

I think I used slightly smaller needles that I should as he is not very large and I had quite a bit of yarn over...

So the results are: 21 things on the needles, well done Stash Haus, and Stash.

With the completed projects - one hat, one scarf, one cardi, one jumper and 4 socks.
Some people are saying that a pair of socks count as one, some say two so to be fair (and coz I've got a lot of yarn to get rid of...) I'm going to say that 8 & 6 win.

So well done to Isabella, and Terri for guessing 8 and Yvette for guessing 6.

For those of you that are interested (if you are still reading this mammoth post)
There were 4 aran weight, 3 lace, 7 Dk and 7 4 ply on the needles.
And I'm going to frog : the green aran, mercury, tudor roses, jitterbug and bee stole.

So that will leave: aran for brother, peacock, toe up socks, Plisse, earth stole, leaf bag, Heree be Dragones, sock jumper (8)
Not decided on hemp, or marble shawl.

And last night I cast on Monkey Socks - dont know why I'm so late in doing these, just about to turn the heel on the first one...

If Stash Haus and Yvette can let me know their snail mail addresses (by Ravelry is fine) then I will send you all something (Terri can you wait until GK ?)

Happy New Year to Everyone, I hope it is full of more good news than last...
